If an event\* is independent, having information about it - i.e when it happened, it's value etc... - gives absolutely **no** information about another event.

Pretend we are tossing a coin multiple times in a row. Each toss of the coin is called an ‘event’. These events are independent if one event has no influence on the outcome of another. For example, say that it lands on heads. Will this impact its probability of getting H/T on the next throw? No. Thus the throws are considered independent of one another. Each coin toss is its own separate event. The coin doesn’t “remember” what it landed on the last time.
Another example is: let’s say you’re trying to predict the weather. You want to know the probability that it will rain tomorrow. If the probability of it raining tomorrow is dependent on whether it rained today, you would want to know today’s weather to make an accurate prediction about tomorrow. If the event of whether or not it rains is independent, then knowing whether it rained today gives you no extra information about tomorrow.
